Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Zagora Tinfou
Your 4-day private desert tour from Marrakech begins in the early morning with a pickup from your hotel, riad, or Marrakech airport. You will travel south in a comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicle, accompanied by a professional driver-guide.
The journey starts by crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, via the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters above sea level), the highest mountain pass in Morocco. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Berber villages, terraced landscapes, winding mountain roads, and dramatic scenery. Several stops are planned for photos, refreshments, and to fully appreciate the Atlas Mountains.
By late morning, you will arrive at Aït Ben Haddou, one of Morocco’s most iconic landmarks and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During your guided visit, explore its ancient adobe architecture, narrow alleys, and fortified towers. Learn about its historical importance and its role as a filming location for world-famous movies and TV series.
After free time for lunch, the journey continues toward southern Morocco through the stunning Draa Valley, the longest palm oasis in the country. This region is known for its endless palm groves, traditional kasbahs, mud-brick villages, and authentic Berber lifestyle. The contrast between lush greenery and arid desert landscapes offers exceptional photo opportunities.
In the late afternoon, you will reach Zagora Tinfou, where the first dunes of the Sahara appear. Here, you will experience your first camel trek in the desert, riding across the golden dunes while watching a magical sunset over the Sahara Desert.
Upon arrival at your camp, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and spend the night in a luxury desert camp in Zagora, surrounded by silence, stars, and the peaceful atmosphere of the desert.
Day 2Zagora – Tamgroute – Alnif – Merzouga – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast in the desert camp, depart Zagora and head toward Tamgroute, an important cultural and spiritual center in southern Morocco. Visit the ancient Quranic library, home to centuries-old manuscripts, and discover the village’s famous green pottery workshops, where local artisans preserve traditional craftsmanship passed down through generations.
The journey continues through the remote desert landscapes of Alnif, offering constantly changing scenery of rocky plains, desert plateaus, and small Berber settlements. This route allows you to experience the raw and authentic side of Morocco, far from mass tourism.
In the afternoon, arrive in Merzouga, located at the edge of the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes, the largest and most impressive sand dunes in Morocco. After a short rest, you will set off on an unforgettable camel trek deep into the Sahara Desert, crossing high dunes of golden sand.
As the sun sets, the dunes glow in shades of orange and gold, creating one of the most iconic desert landscapes in the world. Upon arrival at your luxury desert camp in Merzouga, enjoy a warm welcome with mint tea, followed by a traditional Moroccan dinner.
In the evening, gather around the campfire for a Berber drum music performance, storytelling, and stargazing under a clear desert sky. Overnight in a private, well-equipped luxury tent.
Day 3Erg Chebbi – Erfoud – Todra Gorge – Dadès Gorge
Wake up early to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, one of the highlights of any Sahara desert tour. After breakfast at the camp, you will leave the desert and travel toward the town of Erfoud, known as the gateway to the Sahara and famous for its fossil workshops and local markets.
After a short visit, continue toward the impressive Todra Gorge, a dramatic canyon with towering limestone cliffs reaching up to 300 meters high. Enjoy free time to walk through the gorge, admire the natural scenery, and take photos along the river that flows between the cliffs.
In the afternoon, drive toward the scenic Dadès Gorge, passing through picturesque villages and landscapes shaped by erosion over millions of years. The Dadès Valley is renowned for its rugged rock formations, winding roads, and lush palm groves.
Dinner and overnight in a hotel or guesthouse in the Dadès Valley, offering comfort and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Day 4Dadès Gorge – Rose Valley – Ouarzazate – High Atlas – Marrakech
After breakfast, depart the Dadès Valley and travel through the beautiful Rose Valley, famous for its rose cultivation and aromatic products. During spring, the valley is filled with the scent of blooming roses, while the rest of the year it remains a peaceful and scenic region dotted with traditional villages.
Continue toward Ouarzazate, often referred to as the Hollywood of Morocco. The city is known for its film studios, historic kasbahs, and strategic location at the crossroads of desert routes. You will have free time to explore or take photos before starting the return journey.
In the afternoon, cross the High Atlas Mountains once again via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic stops along the way. Arrival in Marrakech is scheduled for the evening, where your 4-day private desert tour from Marrakech to Zagora and Merzouga comes to an end.
