Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Tizi n’Tichka – Tazenakht – Foum Zguid

Your private desert tour from Marrakech starts early in the morning with a pickup from your hotel or riad. You travel south in a private air-conditioned vehicle with an experienced driver, leaving the city behind and heading toward the High Atlas Mountains, one of the most scenic regions in Morocco.

You cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain pass in the country, at an altitude of over 2,260 meters. Along the way, you will stop several times to admire panoramic views, take photos of Berber mountain villages, terraced fields, deep valleys, and dramatic landscapes shaped by time.

After descending the Atlas Mountains, you reach the region of Tazenakht, well known for its handwoven Berber carpets. Here, you can observe local life, small workshops, and traditional rural Morocco. A lunch stop is planned along the route in a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, the scenery gradually changes into semi-desert landscapes, with wide plains, rocky hills, and isolated villages. You arrive in Foum Zguid, an authentic oasis town considered the last settlement before the Sahara Desert.

You check into a charming guesthouse, enjoy some free time to relax, walk through the oasis, and experience the calm atmosphere of the desert gateway.

Dinner is served at the guesthouse, followed by a peaceful overnight stay.##

Day 2Foum Zguid – Desert Tracks – Iriki Lake – Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi

After breakfast, you leave Foum Zguid aboard a 4x4 vehicle and begin a true off-road desert adventure. This day is dedicated to discovering the wild Sahara, far from paved roads and mass tourism.

You drive along ancient Saharan tracks, crossing rocky plains, dry riverbeds, and vast open spaces, where the silence and immensity of the desert dominate. One of the highlights of the day is crossing the area of Iriki Lake, a vast dry lakebed that becomes a mirror of the sky after rare rains.

Several stops are made to walk in the desert, take photos, and understand the geography and ecosystem of southern Morocco. Your driver-guide shares insights about nomadic routes, desert survival, and local traditions.

In the afternoon, you arrive at Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi, a small and authentic village inhabited by nomadic families. You visit the village, discover traditional oasis agriculture, palm groves, and ancient water management systems.

You are welcomed into a local guesthouse, where you share tea with your hosts and experience real Berber hospitality.

Dinner is prepared using fresh local ingredients, and you spend the night in a calm and authentic desert environment.##

Day 3Zaouiat Sidi Abdenabi – Camel Trek – Erg Chegaga Dunes – Desert Bivouac

After breakfast, you explore the surroundings of the village and learn more about nomadic life in the Sahara Desert. You may visit old ruins and historical remains that testify to centuries of desert habitation.

Late morning, you prepare for one of the most iconic experiences of the tour: a camel trek toward the Erg Chegaga dunes. You ride your camel for approximately 2 hours, crossing open desert terrain as the dunes gradually appear on the horizon.

Upon arrival near the dunes, you have time to rest, walk barefoot on the sand, and enjoy the peaceful desert atmosphere. You then climb the dunes on foot to reach panoramic viewpoints offering spectacular views over Erg Chegaga, one of the largest sand dune systems in Morocco.

As the sun sets, the dunes turn golden and orange, creating an unforgettable desert landscape.

You continue to your desert bivouac, where a traditional dinner is served.

In the evening, enjoy the silence of the Sahara, observe the star-filled sky, and relax around the camp. Overnight in comfortable desert tents, surrounded by nothing but sand dunes and nature

Day 4Erg Chegaga – 4x4 Desert Crossing – Draa Valley – Tamgroute – Zagora

Wake up early to witness a sunrise over the Erg Chegaga dunes, one of the most magical moments of any Sahara desert tour. After breakfast in the desert, you leave the dunes by 4x4, continuing your off-road journey.

You cross vast desert landscapes before gradually reaching the green ribbon of the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest palm oasis. Along the route, you pass traditional ksars, kasbahs, and palm groves that contrast beautifully with the arid desert surroundings.

Stop in Tamgroute, a village famous for its ancient Quranic library and its traditional green pottery, known worldwide. You visit local workshops and learn about the historical and cultural importance of this unique village.

In the afternoon, you arrive in Zagora, a desert town surrounded by palm groves and known as a historic caravan stop.

You check into a comfortable hotel or guesthouse, enjoy free time to relax, walk through the oasis, or explore the town.

Dinner and overnight in Zagora.##

Day 5Zagora – Aït Ben Haddou – High Atlas – Marrakech

After breakfast, you begin the return journey to Marrakech.

You drive north through changing landscapes, passing villages, valleys, and mountain scenery.

A major stop is planned at Aït Ben Haddou, the most famous kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You walk through its narrow alleys, explore traditional clay architecture, and climb to the top for panoramic views over the valley.

After lunch, you cross the High Atlas Mountains once again via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with scenic stops for photos and rest.

Arrival in Marrakech is scheduled for the late afternoon, marking the end of your 5-day private Sahara desert tour from Marrakech to Erg Chegaga and Zagora.
